Sweet summertime is rapidly approaching, and the entire family is itching to get outdoors and enjoy the warm weather. If you’re looking for a family- and dog-friendly outing, look no further than Walla Walla’s Borleske Stadium!

What is the “Dog Days of Summer” event?

For the third year, we have teamed up with the Walla Walla Sweets for the “Dog Days of Summer.” On June 8, fans can bring their dogs to the ballpark for a fun evening, hang out with us, and enjoy the doggy treats and gifts we will be giving away to our biggest fans.

Team president, Zachary Fraser, says his favorite night of the season returns June 8. Last year, the “Dog Days of Summer” event drew close to 200 dogs. The team is always striving to beat records, and the goal this year is 250. Pooches will receive a great giveaway at the stadium gate, which should draw in more dogs than last year. “Coda, our family dog, can’t wait,” said Fraser.

This year, dogs will have their own concession stand—“Dog Concessions.” Be sure to check out the new stand’s variety of dog treats, and stock up on waste bags for when nature calls. We’ll be hanging out there to mingle with our favorite canine companions, although you may not recognize us out of our scrubs. We’d love to chat about your furry friend and our top-notch veterinary care.

The family-oriented Sweets are excited to welcome the entire family, two- and four-legged members alike, as they battle their division rival, the Bend Elks. There will be entertainment for the humans in the household as well, with bounce houses from Jumpin’ Jelly Beanz for the kids, and cold, craft beer on tap for the adults.

You know your pet best

While “Dog Days of Summer” is a fun activity for the entire family, consider your dog’s personality before bringing her along. Is she nervous around strange people or dogs? Does she dislike loud noises? Does she get overexcited with a lot of commotion? Not every pet enjoys an outing with other pets and people filled with cheerful, yet chaotic, activities.

However, if your pet is a social butterfly and delights in the interaction, bring her along, keeping these few things in mind:

  • Always keep your pooch on a leash to prevent her from bounding into a stranger’s personal space.
  • Prevention is key! Protect your pup by making sure her vaccinations and internal and external parasite preventives are up-to-date.
  • Clean up any waste your dog leaves, not only to keep the park clean, but also to prevent parasite transmission, because intestinal parasites are spread through feces.
