A “tail” of heartbreak, hope, and happy endings. Meet Scruffy. Scruffy is a 17-year-old kitty that has been receiving care at our practice since 2008. Scruffy is part of Ben’s family. Ben is a local resident right here in our very own wonderful Walla Walla. These two are quite inseparable. Little did these two know… their relationship was about to undergo one of the biggest and heart-wrenching challenges they’ve ever had to face.
Rewind to February 2025. Scruffy was brought to us in critical condition after appearing to have gotten into an altercation with another animal. One thing was clear: Ben, Scruffy’s caregiver, wanted us to do everything possible to save Scruffy. Our team sprang into action as Scruffy’s life was on the line. Our very own Dr. Perkins immediately began leading his care. Our entire team was invested in his recovery-Ben is one of ours, a member of our community. We knew from the minute Scruffy came in injured that our number one goal was to reunite Ben and Scruffy, especially since Ben was overcoming some health challenges of his own after a recent fall.
After a week of intensive care, including hand-feeding, warm sponge baths (which Scruffy loved), and quiet conversations letting him know we were there with him through it all, Scruffy was discharged after a week with us. A friend of Ben’s picked him up and took him straight to Ben to reunite these two best buddies. This is a story of overcoming some of life’s toughest battles and knowing that there is something worth fighting for. For these two, their companionship continues to bring light to each other’s lives.
