Emergencies During Regular Hospital Hours

If you face an emergency during our normal business hours, please call us immediately at (509) 525-2502. Our trained medical team will assess the situation over the phone, guide you on the severity, and prepare for your arrival if emergency care is necessary.

Small animal patients requiring emergency services after hours are referred to Mid Columbia Pet Emergency Service in Pasco. In the event of an emergency, please call Mid Columbia Pet Emergency Service directly at (509) 547-3577 so that they can prepare for your arrival.

For equine and other farm animal emergencies after hours, please contact our regular hospital number at (509) 525-2502 to connect with our after-hours support team. They will direct you to the local on-call veterinarian. Additionally, you can reach the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital at (509) 335-0711 for both large and small animal emergencies.

Quickly recognizing signs of distress can be critical. Here are some common emergency symptoms to watch for:

  • Difficulty breathing or no breathing
  • Weak or rapid pulse
  • Extreme lethargy or inability to stand
  • Severe vomiting or diarrhea, especially if blood is present
  • Unconsciousness
  • Seizures
  • Any signs of extreme pain like whining or shaking
  • Bleeding or blood in bodily excretions

Poison Related Emergencies

Contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 for any poison-related emergency. A consultation fee may apply.

Handling an injured pet requires caution as pain can cause unpredictable behavior. For their safety and yours:

  • Gently wrap small pets in a blanket or place them in a carrier.
  • For larger pets, use a makeshift stretcher like plywood and secure them gently.
  • Always assume a pet may bite or scratch when in pain; use a makeshift muzzle if necessary.
  • Hold them close to you, if safe, to help prevent them from flailing and further injuring themselves.
