Fear Free® Experience
We Focus on Your Pet's Emotional Health
At Associated Veterinary Medical Center, we believe veterinary care should support not only your pet’s physical health, but their emotional well-being, too. Creating a calm, positive experience is an essential part of the care we provide to pets and families throughout Walla Walla and the surrounding communities.
We are intentional about recognizing even subtle signs of fear, anxiety, and stress, and adjusting our approach to meet your pet where they are. While the Fear Free® initiative was formalized in 2016, these principles have long been part of how our team approaches care.
Our goal has always been to reduce stress, build trust, and strengthen the human-animal bond, because when pets feel safe, we’re able to provide better care, and you and your pet have a more positive experience overall.
We Focus on Your Pet's Emotional Health
A Calm, Thoughtful Check-In Experience
From the moment you arrive, we’ve designed your visit to be as smooth and low-stress as possible, for both you and your pet.
Instead of a traditional waiting room experience, most of our clients check in from their car. When you arrive, simply give us a call, and a member of our team will come out to you or bring you directly into an exam room when it’s ready.
This approach helps minimize time spent in the lobby and reduces exposure to unfamiliar sights, sounds, and other animals, creating a calmer start to your pet’s visit.
Whenever possible, we’ll guide you through a direct-to-room experience, and in some cases, we even utilize exterior exam room entrances to make the transition even easier.
Calm, Supportive Environment
From soft music and gentle lighting to non-slip flooring, our space is designed to help pets feel more secure and relaxed from the moment they arrive.
Personalized Exam Experience
We adapt each visit to your pet’s needs. That may mean examining them on the floor, in your lap, or even outside. Our team moves at your pet’s pace, using calm voices and gentle handling. We don’t force interactions. Our focus is on building comfort and trust.
Consistent, Low-Stress Handling
If your pet stays with us for treatment, we continue the same calm, thoughtful approach to minimize fear, anxiety, and stress at every step.
Use of Positive Reinforcement
Vet visits are always better with an extra treat or tasty distraction. To help make our dog and cat friends feel more at home, we provide extra pet-safe treats such as peanut butter, Churu treats, and more.
